The ROG Zephyrus G16 (2025) GU605CX is the RTX 5090 Laptop GPU version of ASUS’s thin 16-inch gaming laptop: a Core Ultra 9 285H processor, a 240 Hz 2.5K OLED display, 64 GB of LPDDR5X soldered to the board and a weight of 1.95 kg. The GPU runs at up to 120 W, and Notebookcheck measured that this keeps the RTX 5090 below its performance in thicker laptops. Owners praise the display and portability; heat, fan noise under load and memory that cannot be upgraded are the most common criticisms.

On Notebookcheck’s 64 GB GU605CX sample, the GPU drew about 120 W in Turbo mode, 105 W in Performance and 55 W in Quiet. In Turbo mode, Cyberpunk 2077 at QHD Ultra averaged 83.2 fps; the Razer Blade 16 (2025), using the same RTX 5090 with a Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, was clearly ahead in the overall performance rating, and the review says the GPU cannot reach its potential. Fan noise was 42.4 dB(A) in Quiet and 53.3 dB(A) in Turbo; a slightly pulsing idle fan and low-frequency PWM flicker on the OLED were listed as negatives. The review praises the display, speakers, two SSD slots and chassis quality, and also notes a creaking lid and hinge wobble.
Notebookcheck: Asus ROG Zephyrus G16 (2025) review, a slim gaming laptop now with an RTX 5090 and 64 GB of RAMOf the 15 reviews on Best Buy US’s page for the 32 GB GU605CX-G16.U9X5090, 12 are 5 stars. Owners praise the thin, light chassis, OLED display, keyboard and gaming performance. Criticisms repeat: four reviews say the power limit keeps the RTX 5090 from full performance, three mention noticeable heat between the keyboard and screen or in general, and one mentions fan noise under heavy load and few USB-A ports. Two reviews note that the soldered memory cannot be upgraded. A 3-star buyer returned the laptop because of random stutters in games.
Best Buy: ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 OLED 240Hz, RTX 5090 customer reviewsOn the ROG Forum, a GU605CX owner writes that with the battery charge limit set to 80%, a high-pitched coil whine comes from the middle of the keyboard once the battery reaches the limit; the noise continues even with the laptop shut down while plugged in, and stops only when the adapter is removed or the limit is set to 100%. Another user reports the same noise on an RTX 5070 Ti G16. An ASUS support agent suggested software steps and, when they did not help, forwarded the details to the technical team; the second user was advised to send the unit in for repair.
