Technology glossary

NVIDIA Advanced Optimus

A system that can automatically switch a laptop’s internal display path between integrated and discrete GPUs.

A MUX switches the display path. Direct discrete-GPU output can reduce latency in some games, while the integrated path can save power for lighter work.

Support depends on the laptop’s display and hardware design; it is not universal across machines with the same GPU name.

Lenovo LOQ 15 (15AHP11)

An entry-level gaming laptop with discrete NVIDIA graphics in a 15.3-inch body. This model code has a Ryzen 7 250, an RTX 5050 Laptop GPU with 8 GB of GDDR7 and a 115 W TGP, 16 GB of socketed DDR5 and a 512 GB SSD. The chassis is plastic, weight starts at 2.1 kg and there is no card reader. Independent tests praise the 1920 x 1200 display and the cooling, while noting fan noise, the speakers and the 512 GB of storage as limits.

ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 (2025) GU605CX

The ROG Zephyrus G16 (2025) GU605CX is the RTX 5090 Laptop GPU version of ASUS’s thin 16-inch gaming laptop: a Core Ultra 9 285H processor, a 240 Hz 2.5K OLED display, 64 GB of LPDDR5X soldered to the board and a weight of 1.95 kg. The GPU runs at up to 120 W, and Notebookcheck measured that this keeps the RTX 5090 below its performance in thicker laptops. Owners praise the display and portability; heat, fan noise under load and memory that cannot be upgraded are the most common criticisms.
