Google presents the Pixel Watch 5 with proactive Gemini help, more accurate GPS routes and new Health Guardian health features. Google
In a two-week test, Android Central easily gets two days of battery while tracking sleep and workouts and occasionally using Gemini. During a 5K race the watch did not record GPS data but measured distance accurately; the route was recorded on a later long walk. It finds the watch heavy and thick.
Android Central: Google Pixel Watch 5 reviewTechRadar tests the 45 mm model for about 10 days. It says the watch needs daily charging with the always-on display, or at most every other day without it; a 2.5-hour hike used about 25% of the battery. Heart rate readings were close to a Polar H10 chest strap, and a GPS test on the London Marathon route reported good results against the Apple Watch Ultra 3 and Garmin Fenix 8 Pro.
TechRadar: Google Pixel Watch 5 reviewTom’s Guide measures an average of 48 hours of use per charge on the 45 mm model; charging from 5% to 100% took just under an hour. In two walks in Seattle worn alongside an Apple Watch Ultra 3, distances were 3.73 and 3.69 miles in the first and 3.26 and 3.25 miles in the second.
Tom's Guide: Google Pixel Watch 5 reviewAndroid Authority reports that some users who received the watch a day before launch saw a “not compatible with this version of the app” error while pairing. Google says the Pixel Watch and Google Health apps would update on 19 August, after which setup would work.
Android Authority: Pixel Watch 5 pairing issueAndroid Police relays Reddit reports from users saying Gemini on the Pixel Watch 5 gave unhelpful answers and could not even start a timer. The article says Google replied in the same thread that the issue was fixed and an update was rolling out.
Android Police: Pixel Watch 5 Gemini problemsOn Droid Life's 45 mm unit, the always-on display gave about two days and most charges came close to 72 hours with it off; a GPS bike ride of over an hour used about 10 percent battery. Compared with an Oura ring, live heart rate nearly matched, while resting heart rate during sleep read about 5 bpm higher on most days.
Droid Life: Pixel Watch 5 reviewIn the same review the raise-to-talk Gemini gesture often did not work and starting a workout by voice failed repeatedly; haptics were found weak enough that notifications were missed, especially during workouts.
