Technology glossary
The 7th version of Google’s Wear OS platform for smartwatches.
According to Google’s announcement, the release brings Android Live Updates to the watch face: ongoing events such as a game score, a food order or workout progress can be tracked. A media output switcher manages audio hand-off to headphones or speakers from the watch.
Google says the average user upgrading from Wear OS 6 to Wear OS 7 can expect up to a 10% improvement in battery life. This is a manufacturer claim; results depend on the watch hardware and usage.
Gemini Intelligence features do not arrive automatically with the release; according to the announcement they are added to select Wear OS 7 devices later in the year. Which feature a given watch has should be checked in that watch’s own documentation.
