Corning Gorilla Glass 5

A cover glass placed over a phone display, rather than the display panel itself. Corning introduced this generation in 2016. It can be used with AMOLED or IPS panels.

Corning’s launch material describes a 1.6-metre drop test onto a rough surface. This is a manufacturer claim under defined laboratory conditions, not a guarantee that every phone will survive a fall.

Glass thickness, the phone frame, impact angle and landing surface affect the outcome. The number 5 is not a scratch-hardness or Mohs rating.

The Galaxy A54 specification lists Gorilla Glass 5 on both front and back. Its use on other devices depends on their own specifications.
