Apple Watch Series 7 (45 mm, GPS)

The Apple Watch Series 7 is Apple’s 2021 watch. Compared with the Series 6 it brought a larger, brighter always-on OLED display, IP6X dust resistance and USB-C magnetic fast charging; for health it has ECG, blood oxygen and fall detection. Apple rates battery life at 18 hours, and in testing the battery, which needs a daily charge if you also track sleep, was the weakest point.

Strengths and limitations

  • TechRadar found the display larger and brighter than the Series 6 and running, cycling and swim tracking good at a basic level. With the new cable charging reached about 50% in 30 minutes and over 80% in 45 minutes. A 50-minute run with map voice directions, GPS and offline Spotify used only 10% battery. On the other hand about 15% went overnight, and against Apple’s claim that 8 minutes of charging covers a night of sleep tracking, the test saw about 8% added in eight minutes. With 24–30 hours per charge, sleep tracking needed a regular charging routine.
