Sensor23.5 × 15.7 mm APS-C X-Trans CMOS 5 HR; 40.2 MP; X-Processor 5 FujifilmAPS-C (23.3 × 15.5 mm) Exmor R CMOS; approx. 26.0 MP effective (27.0 MP total)

Exmor R is a back-illuminated sensor: the circuitry sits behind the light-gathering surface, so more light reaches the pixels. Video uses up to about 19.9 MP of the sensor.

Sony
LensFixed 23 mm f/2 (35 mm equivalent); 8 elements in 6 groups, 2 aspherical; f/2–16; focusing down to about 10 cm

The lens cannot be changed.

Fujifilm
—
ND filterBuilt-in 4-stop ND filter

The ND filter cuts light so a wide aperture or slow shutter can be used in bright conditions.

Fujifilm
—
Image stabilisationIn-body 5-axis; up to 6.0 stops

6 stops is the manufacturer’s figure under standard conditions; real results depend on hand shake and shutter speed.

Fujifilm
Sensor-shift 5-axis stabilisation; 5.0 stops (CIPA)

The 5-stop figure is pitch/yaw correction measured by Sony to the CIPA standard with the FE 50 mm F1.2 GM lens; it varies by lens and focal length. In video, Active mode crops the image slightly for stronger stabilisation.

Sony
ISO125–12,800; extended 64–51,200 FujifilmISO 100–32000 for stills (expandable to 50–102400); 100–32000 for movies Sony
Shutter and burstMechanical up to 1/4000 s, electronic up to 1/180,000 s; about 20 fps with electronic shutter (1.29× crop), 6 fps with mechanical shutter FujifilmMechanical 1/4000–30 s, electronic 1/8000–30 s; flash sync 1/160 s; Hi+ 11 fps; buffer 59 RAW, 143 JPEG Extra Fine frames

The buffer figure is the approximate number of frames the camera can shoot in a row before waiting to write to the card.

Sony
AutofocusIntelligent Hybrid AF; subject detection for animals, birds, cars, motorcycles, airplanes and trains FujifilmFast Hybrid AF; 759 phase-detection points for stills, 495 for movies; AI recognition of humans, animals, birds, insects, cars, trains and aeroplanes; EV -3 to 20

Hybrid AF combines phase detection with contrast detection. The recognition function finds and tracks the selected subject type in the frame; the user chooses the subject type manually.

Sony
ViewfinderHybrid viewfinder: optical 0.52×, about 95% coverage; electronic 0.5-inch OLED, 3.69 million dots, 0.66×

Because the optical finder looks through a separate window rather than the lens, framing can shift at close range; the electronic finder shows the exact image.

Fujifilm
0.39-inch XGA OLED; 2,359,296 dots; approx. 1.07× (0.70× 35 mm equivalent); 22 mm eyepoint Sony
Screen3.0-inch tilting touch LCD; 1.62 million dots Fujifilm3.0-inch touch TFT; 1,036,800 dots; side-opening vari-angle (176° opening, 270° rotation)

The side-opening screen can be turned to face forward so the user can see themselves when shooting selfies and vlogs.

10-bit 4:2:2 recording keeps more tonal information for colour grading. XAVC S-I compresses each frame separately for easier editing, but files are very large. Four-channel audio requires a compatible Multi Interface Shoe microphone.

Card and connectivitySingle SD card slot (UHS-I); USB-C 10 Gb/s; micro HDMI; Wi-Fi 802.11ac; Bluetooth 4.2 LE

The UHS-I slot also accepts faster UHS-II cards but runs them at UHS-I speed.

Fujifilm

BatteryNP-W126S; about 310 frames (EVF) or 450 frames (OVF) in normal mode per CIPA

CIPA figures follow a standard test pattern; the number drops with stabilisation and video in use.

Fujifilm
NP-FZ100; approx. 550 shots with the viewfinder, 570 with the screen (CIPA); approx. 95–100 minutes of actual movie recording

The battery can be charged inside the camera over USB.

Card slot—Single SD slot; UHS-I and UHS-II

A UHS-II card helps with high-bitrate video and clears the buffer faster after long bursts. There is no second slot for backup recording.

Sony

Over USB-C the camera can draw power and charge its battery with USB Power Delivery; it can also connect to a computer as a webcam over USB.

Sony
Wireless—Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac (2.4 and 5 GHz); Bluetooth 4.2

Bluetooth is used for sharing location from a phone and for remote control.
