SD Express

An SD Association standard that adds the PCI Express and NVMe interface to SD cards.

The SD Association announced SD Express with the SD 7.0 specification on 27 June 2018. The card uses PCIe 3.0 and NVMe v1.3 over the second row of pins found on UHS-II cards, and the first version defines transfer speeds of up to 985 MB/s.

The standard keeps backward compatibility with existing SD readers: an SD Express card works through the classic SD interface in an older reader, but the high speed needs both card and reader to support SD Express. It is offered in the SDHC, SDXC and SDUC capacity classes.
