The Pixel 9 is Google’s main 2024 phone. It carries the Tensor G4 chip, 12 GB of RAM, a 6.3-inch (160 mm) 60–120 Hz Actua OLED display and the same 50 MP main and 48 MP ultrawide cameras as the Pixel 9 Pro; it has no telephoto camera. Front and back are Gorilla Glass Victus 2, and Google promises seven years of updates. Testing praised the display, camera and battery and criticised the Tensor G4’s performance and slow AI features.

Strengths and limitations

  • TechRadar found the display very bright and colourful for its class, though side by side the Pixel 9 Pro’s screen stayed brighter and sharper. Photos were almost indistinguishable from the Pixel 9 Pro; however, the camera app was criticised for not explaining why some features were disabled, and when the phone overheated in bright sunlight the camera dropped to 12 MP. In Future Labs testing the Tensor G4 trailed the iPhone SE in single-core performance; apps stuttered with many open, and AI features felt slow. The battery lasted more than 13 hours in their rundown test; a 45 W charger made almost no difference over 25 W, and 55% in 30 minutes was confirmed.

Owner experiences and issues

  • Most of the 46 reviews on Best Buy Canada are positive; the camera, battery life, the clean Android interface and speed compared with older Pixel or Samsung phones are the most praised points. Negative non-promotional reviews cover different issues: one owner says Face Unlock fails in the dark and the speaker crackles during calls, another says the battery drains quickly despite about an hour of video a day and that voice typing is weak, and another complains about the lack of a memory card slot. Promotional reviews also mention low call volume, warming after 10–15 minutes of use and occasional freezes. 1-star reviews unrelated to the phone itself, such as a security claim and an iPhone comparison, were not counted.
