ASUS ROG Strix OLED XG27UCDMG

The ROG Strix OLED XG27UCDMG is ASUS's 27-inch-class 4K 240 Hz QD-OLED gaming monitor. It offers 1000-nit peak HDR, DisplayHDR 400 True Black certification, two HDMI 2.1 ports, 90 W USB-C and KVM, with a three-year warranty that covers burn-in. It lacks DisplayPort 2.1, and the glossy surface raises blacks in a lit room.

Specifications

SpecificationValue
Panel26.5-inch (27-inch class) QD-OLED, 16:9, anti-reflection surface

QD-OLED pairs self-emitting pixels with a quantum-dot colour layer; each pixel switches off individually, so blacks are fully dark.

Resolution and refresh3840 × 2160, 240 Hz

The 4K 240 Hz signal travels over DisplayPort 1.4 with DSC compression, or over HDMI 2.1 depending on graphics-card support.

Response time0.03 ms (GtG)

This is the grey-to-grey pixel transition time, not total input lag.

Brightness1000 cd/m² HDR peak

ASUS notes peak brightness may vary with colour pre-calibration; the peak is reached on a small screen area.

Contrast1,500,000:1 (typical)
Colour99% DCI-P3, 145% sRGB; ΔE < 2; 10-bit

Factory calibration (ΔE < 2) means colours are set close enough to target that differences are hard to see.

HDRHDR10; VESA DisplayHDR 400 True Black
Inputs1 × DisplayPort 1.4 (DSC); 2 × HDMI 2.1 (FRL); 1 × USB-C (DP Alt Mode, 90 W power)

The USB-C input takes video from a laptop and charges it at up to 90 W over one cable. HDMI 2.1 suits consoles at 4K 120 Hz.

USB hub and audio3 × USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A; headphone jack
Variable refreshFreeSync Premium Pro, G-SYNC Compatible; VESA AdaptiveSync Display 240 Hz

Variable refresh matches the screen's rate to the graphics card's frame rate, reducing tearing and stutter.

FeaturesASUS OLED Care, KVM switch, Extreme Low Motion Blur, Neo Proximity Sensor, flicker-free

KVM shares a keyboard and mouse connected to the monitor between two computers. The proximity sensor dims the screen when the user leaves to reduce OLED wear.

Power consumption< 80 W; < 0.5 W in power saving; < 0.3 W off; 100–240 V
StandTilt +20°/−5°, swivel ±45°, pivot ±90°, 0–120 mm height; VESA 100 × 100; 1/4-inch tripod socket

The tripod socket lets a camera or light be mounted on the stand.

Strengths and limitations

  • According to TFTCentral the monitor uses Samsung Display's 4th-generation QD-OLED panel with 250 nits SDR brightness. It has DisplayPort 1.4 with DSC rather than DisplayPort 2.1, and supports HDR10 only, with no Dolby Vision. PiP/PbP and KVM are included.

  • According to DisplayNinja, HDR brightness depends on white-window size: 250 nits at 100%, 450 at 10% and 1000 at 3%; with Uniform Brightness on, SDR is held at 250 nits. The glossy, unpolarised surface raises blacks and adds a purplish tint under direct light, and VRR brightness flicker shows in some games. Black frame insertion (BFI) works only at 120 Hz.

Owner experiences and issues

  • On ROG Forum, DevBlocky (July 2025) says MCM104 firmware would not install by either the USB or One Key method while MCM103 installed at once; an ASUS agent asked about connections and cables. The install finally worked with One Key after a few tries from a different, new desktop PC; no cause was given. leo6666 (August 2025) reports the same "FAIL 0x0000" error.

ROG Forum, two users; ASUS gave no official cause or fix. An issue with the firmware update process, not a display fault.

  • Brachaewi (July 2025) says a monitor that shipped with MCM101 firmware would not update, and shares a method that worked: putting the .bin file on a FAT32 USB 2.0 drive named "USB", connecting only DisplayPort, the USB 3.2 cable and power, draining power and then holding the joystick for 5 seconds at power-on, after which the update was detected. stekkoBiceps reports a similar problem.
