Sensor35 mm full-frame (35.9 × 24.0 mm) Exmor RS stacked CMOS; approx. 50.1 MP effective

The stacked design allows very fast sensor readout, reducing rolling-shutter distortion with the electronic shutter and enabling blackout-free shooting.

Sony
APS-C (23.3 × 15.5 mm) Exmor R CMOS; approx. 26.0 MP effective (27.0 MP total)

Exmor R is a back-illuminated sensor: the circuitry sits behind the light-gathering surface, so more light reaches the pixels. Video uses up to about 19.9 MP of the sensor.

Sony
ProcessorBIONZ XR and a dedicated AI processing unit Sony—
Continuous shooting30 fps with electronic shutter; 10 fps with mechanical shutter; pre-capture

Pre-capture also records frames from just before the shutter is fully pressed, helping catch unpredictable moments such as birds or sport.

Autofocus759-point phase-detection hybrid AF covering about 92% of the sensor; human, animal, bird, insect, car, train and airplane recognition SonyFast Hybrid AF; 759 phase-detection points for stills, 495 for movies; AI recognition of humans, animals, birds, insects, cars, trains and aeroplanes; EV -3 to 20

Hybrid AF combines phase detection with contrast detection. The recognition function finds and tracks the selected subject type in the frame; the user chooses the subject type manually.

Sony
In-body stabilisation5-axis; 8.5 stops at centre, 7.0 at periphery (CIPA 2024, with FE 50 mm F1.2 GM)

The stop figure applies to the stated lens and test condition; the effect differs with other lenses.

Viewfinder and screen0.64-inch Quad-XGA OLED EVF, 9,437,184 dots, 0.90×, 60/120/240 fps; 3.2-inch 2,095,104-dot touch screen with four-axis articulation

The screen tilts 98° up and 40° down, swings 180° sideways and rotates 270°, suiting both high/low-angle stills and video.

Video8K (7680 × 4320) 30p/25p/24p XAVC HS; 4K up to 120p; Full HD 120p and 240 fps slow motion; 10-bit 4:2:2

XAVC HS uses H.265/HEVC and XAVC S H.264; 10-bit 4:2:2 leaves more room for colour grading.

Sony
4K up to 119.88p in 10-bit 4:2:2 (XAVC S/HS 280 Mbps); XAVC S-I 4K 59.94p at 600 Mbps; Full HD 119.88p; 4-channel 24-bit audio

10-bit 4:2:2 recording keeps more tonal information for colour grading. XAVC S-I compresses each frame separately for easier editing, but files are very large. Four-channel audio requires a compatible Multi Interface Shoe microphone.

Sony
Card slots2 slots; each accepts CFexpress Type A or SD (UHS-I/UHS-II)

CFexpress Type A offers much higher write speeds than SD for 8K and long bursts.

ConnectionsUSB-C (10 Gbit/s, USB 3.2); 2.5GBASE-T wired LAN; Wi-Fi 5 GHz/2.4 GHz (802.11ac); Bluetooth 5.0; full-size HDMI (Type-A)

Wired 2.5 GbE is aimed at sports and news photographers sending files quickly from the field.

Sony
USB-C 5 Gbps (USB 3.2); micro HDMI (Type D, 4K 60p 4:2:2 10-bit output); 3.5 mm microphone and headphone; Multi Interface Shoe with digital audio interface

Over USB-C the camera can draw power and charge its battery with USB Power Delivery; it can also connect to a computer as a webcam over USB.

Sony
BatteryNP-FZ100; approx. 420 shots with EVF, 520 with LCD (CIPA) SonyNP-FZ100; approx. 550 shots with the viewfinder, 570 with the screen (CIPA); approx. 95–100 minutes of actual movie recording

The battery can be charged inside the camera over USB.

Image stabilisation—Sensor-shift 5-axis stabilisation; 5.0 stops (CIPA)

The 5-stop figure is pitch/yaw correction measured by Sony to the CIPA standard with the FE 50 mm F1.2 GM lens; it varies by lens and focal length. In video, Active mode crops the image slightly for stronger stabilisation.

Sony
Shutter and burst—Mechanical 1/4000–30 s, electronic 1/8000–30 s; flash sync 1/160 s; Hi+ 11 fps; buffer 59 RAW, 143 JPEG Extra Fine frames

The buffer figure is the approximate number of frames the camera can shoot in a row before waiting to write to the card.

Sony
Viewfinder—0.39-inch XGA OLED; 2,359,296 dots; approx. 1.07× (0.70× 35 mm equivalent); 22 mm eyepoint Sony
Screen—3.0-inch touch TFT; 1,036,800 dots; side-opening vari-angle (176° opening, 270° rotation)

The side-opening screen can be turned to face forward so the user can see themselves when shooting selfies and vlogs.

Sony
Card slot—Single SD slot; UHS-I and UHS-II

A UHS-II card helps with high-bitrate video and clears the buffer faster after long bursts. There is no second slot for backup recording.

Sony
Wireless—Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac (2.4 and 5 GHz); Bluetooth 4.2

Bluetooth is used for sharing location from a phone and for remote control.
