Technology glossary
The Bluetooth SIG core release from May 2025 that improves privacy by randomising the timing of address changes.
Bluetooth Core 6.1 was published on 6 May 2025 as the first release under the SIG’s twice-yearly schedule. Its headline change randomises the timing of updates to a device’s resolvable private address (RPA).
When address changes are unpredictable, it becomes harder for third parties to track a device over time. Because the work is offloaded to the Controller, the host processor wakes less often, which helps battery life.
The SIG advises makers to name the specific features a product supports rather than only the core version number, so a product labelled “Bluetooth 6.1” should not be assumed to support every optional feature of that release.

The Galaxy Buds4 Pro are Samsung’s 2026 noise-cancelling in-ear earbuds. They offer a two-way woofer + tweeter driver, adaptive ANC, 24-bit/96 kHz audio, Bluetooth 6.1, Auracast, head-gesture call control and IP57 protection; Samsung rates them at 6 hours with ANC and 26 hours with the case. Testing found the ANC excellent; the tip system, fit while running and limited features on non-Samsung phones are weak points.

Liberty 5 Pro is a true-wireless in-ear headset focused on separating speech from surrounding noise. Its small case display controls listening modes. Three-device connectivity is useful, but disables LDAC; advanced features also shorten battery life.
