Technology glossary

Apple A19 Pro

Apple's chip for the iPhone Air and iPhone 17 Pro family, with a stronger graphics unit than the A19.

According to Apple's iPhone Air spec page, the A19 Pro has a 6-core CPU with two performance and four efficiency cores, a 16-core Neural Engine and a GPU with hardware ray tracing. Its GPU cores include Neural Accelerators that speed up AI work.

The same name comes with different GPU core counts in different phones: the A19 Pro in the iPhone Air has a 5-core GPU. Graphics performance and behaviour under sustained load therefore differ between phones with the same chip name, depending on core count and the body's cooling.

Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max

The iPhone 17 Pro Max is Apple's largest 2025 Pro phone: a 6.9-inch 120 Hz ProMotion OLED screen, the A19 Pro, three 48 MP rear cameras and a 4× (100 mm) tetraprism telephoto. The body is an aluminium unibody with Ceramic Shield 2 on the front. Battery life tests place it among the best in its class; owners praise the camera, battery and speed, while some complain about pressing Camera Control by accident and about wear on the aluminium edges.

Apple iPhone Air

The iPhone Air is Apple's thinnest phone at 5.64 mm: a 6.5-inch 120 Hz OLED display, the A19 Pro chip, a single 48 MP rear camera and eSIM only. Its thinness costs battery, speaker and camera features; tests put battery life close to the iPhone 17 and well behind the Pro models.
