Apple iPad mini (A17 Pro)

Apple's small 8.3-inch tablet. It weighs 293 g and brings the A17 Pro chip, Apple Pencil Pro support, 10 Gbit/s USB-C and Wi-Fi 6E. The display remains an LCD. Reviews praise its portability and performance; the screen lag in vertical scrolling is reduced but not gone for everyone, and repairability is low.

Strengths and limitations

  • Early reviews collected by 9to5Mac split on the “jelly scrolling” seen on the previous model, where one side of the screen refreshes later during vertical scrolling: The Verge found the effect still clearly present, while Six Colors, Wired and MacStories saw none on their units; MacStories credited an improved display controller. MacStories measured 762/274 Mbit/s over Wi-Fi 6E. Engadget found the A17 Pro slightly slower than in the iPhone 15 Pro but ample for an iPad mini.

  • In iFixit's teardown, reported by AppleInsider, a high-speed camera showed the effect reduced but not eliminated; no obvious change to the display driver board was seen and the panel is a 60 Hz IPS. The provisional repairability score is 3 out of 10, the same as before. The USB-C port is easier to replace; most other parts are almost unchanged from the 2021 model. Memory is at least 8 GB.
