ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 (2023) GA402XV-BS91-CB

The Zephyrus G14 (2023) is ASUS’s 1.65 kg, 14-inch gaming laptop. This SKU has the Ryzen 9 7940HS, an RTX 4060 Laptop GPU running at up to 125 W and a 165 Hz QHD+ display, and is partly upgradable through one SO-DIMM and one M.2 slot. Independent testing counted the keyboard and touchpad among the best in its class; the CPU reached about 95 °C in Turbo.

GA402XV-BS91-CB: AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS, GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU 8 GB, 16 GB DDR5, 512 GB SSD, 14-inch QHD+ 165 Hz IPS-level display (Canadian SKU). The RTX 4050 GA402XU, the RTX 4070 GA402XI, and the RTX 4080/4090 GA402XZ/XY versions with the mini LED Nebula HDR display are separate.

Memory can be increased by fitting a module in the SO-DIMM slot alongside the soldered memory.

Strengths and limitations

  • Ultrabook Review counted the G14’s keyboard and glass touchpad among the best in 14-inch Windows laptops; no fingerprint reader alongside the IR camera and the power input in the middle of the left edge were negatives. The Ryzen 9 7940HS settled at ~70 W, ~95 °C and ~48 dB fan noise in Turbo; in the Performance profile it dropped to ~45 W and stayed under 40 dB while losing only 15% performance. The RAM, SSD, Wi‑Fi card and battery are easy to reach inside.
