Apple iPad Pro 11-inch (4th generation, M2)

The iPad Pro 11-inch (4th generation) is Apple’s 11-inch Pro tablet updated with the M2 chip in 2022. It has a 120 Hz ProMotion IPS display, a Thunderbolt / USB 4 port, Wi‑Fi 6E, a LiDAR Scanner, four speakers and Apple Pencil hover. The test highlighted performance, display accuracy and long battery life; slow response times, no HDR and throttling under sustained load in the fanless body were the limits.

iPad Pro 11-inch (4th generation), Wi‑Fi (A2759) or Wi‑Fi + Cellular (A2761, A2435, A2762); 128 GB–2 TB. The 2021 M1 model, the 12.9-inch 6th generation and the 2024 M4 OLED model are separate products.

Specifications

SpecificationValue
Display11-inch Liquid Retina, LED-backlit with IPS technology; 2388 × 1668 pixels, 264 ppi; ProMotion; wide colour (P3), True Tone; anti-reflective coating (1.8% reflectivity)

ProMotion varies the refresh rate up to 120 Hz to keep scrolling and Apple Pencil drawing smooth. SDR brightness is 600 nits max; the mini-LED XDR display of the 12.9-inch model is not used here. The fully laminated display removes the gap between glass and panel so the pencil tip appears closer to the line.

ChipApple M2: 8-core CPU (4 performance + 4 efficiency), 10-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine, 100 GB/s memory bandwidth; ProRes encode/decode engine

The media engine handles H.264, HEVC, ProRes and ProRes RAW in hardware, easing the CPU during editing and export. Apple lists Apple Intelligence support for this model.

Memory and storage8 GB RAM with 128 GB, 256 GB or 512 GB storage; 16 GB RAM with 1 TB or 2 TB storage

RAM depends on storage capacity and cannot be upgraded later. On the 128 GB model ProRes video is limited to 1080p at 30 fps.

Rear cameras12 MP Wide (ƒ/1.8) and 10 MP Ultra Wide (ƒ/2.4, 125°); 2x optical zoom out, up to 5x digital; LiDAR Scanner; True Tone flash

The LiDAR Scanner measures depth for augmented-reality apps and low-light focusing.

Video4K at 24/25/30/60 fps (Wide); ProRes up to 4K at 30 fps; 1080p slo-mo at 120/240 fps
Front camera12 MP Ultra Wide TrueDepth, 122°, ƒ/2.4; Center Stage; Face ID

Center Stage pans the frame automatically as the person moves during video calls.

AudioFour speakers; five studio-quality microphones
Port and pencilThunderbolt / USB 4 port; Smart Connector; supports Apple Pencil (2nd generation) and Apple Pencil (USB-C), Apple Pencil hover

The Thunderbolt / USB 4 port allows fast external storage and external displays. Apple Pencil hover previews where the tip will land before it touches the screen.

Wireless and cellularWi‑Fi 6E (802.11ax) 2x2 MIMO, up to 2.4 Gbit/s; Bluetooth 5.3; on Wi‑Fi + Cellular models 5G (sub-6 GHz), Gigabit LTE, nano-SIM and eSIM

Cellular model numbers: A2761 (general), A2435 (mmWave, US), A2762 (China); the Wi‑Fi model is A2759. GPS/GNSS is only on cellular models.

Battery and charging28.65 Wh lithium-polymer; up to 10 hours web or video on Wi‑Fi (9 hours on cellular data); 20 W USB-C adapter and 1 m cable in the box
SensorsFace ID, LiDAR Scanner, three-axis gyro, accelerometer, barometer, ambient light sensor
Operating systemiPadOS (iPadOS 16 at launch)

Strengths and limitations

  • In Notebookcheck’s measurements the display averaged 611 cd/m², 1676:1 contrast and 99.7% sRGB with low colour error (ΔE 1.49); no PWM was seen, but grey-to-grey response (43 ms) was judged slow for fast games. The battery lasted 14 h 6 min in the Wi‑Fi web test, 15 h 41 min in H.264 video and 4 h 16 min under load at maximum brightness; charging with the bundled 20 W adapter took well over two hours. In the fanless design, performance dropped markedly under sustained 3DMark load (28% stability in the Wild Life Extreme stress test), while surfaces stayed below 34.5 °C. The speakers were balanced at 77.6 dB. Drawbacks: weak adapter, slow response times, no HDR support and strong throttling under load.
