OCR: Convert Images and PDFs to Text

Turn text in photos, screenshots or scanned PDFs into editable text with OCR.

OCR (optical character recognition) turns the text in an image into text you can select and edit. Use it instead of retyping a document you photographed, lecture notes, a book page or a screenshot.

Copy the result as plain text, or download it as a Word document or a searchable PDF. For documents with tables, the Excel output splits the columns.

If you select several images they’re combined into one document, in order. Recognition runs in your browser; your images are never sent to a server.

How to use

  1. Select images or a PDF, drag them in or paste from the clipboard (Ctrl+V).
  2. Choose the document language and the output format.
  3. Press “Recognize text”, then copy the text or download the file.

Frequently asked questions

Which images work best?

Straight, well-lit, sharp photos. Text should ideally be at least 20–30 pixels tall. Skewed, shadowed or blurry photos produce more errors. Handwriting recognition is weak in this engine.

Which languages are supported?

English and Turkish are built in. You can pick from 19 languages including German, French, Spanish, Arabic, Russian, Chinese and Japanese; each language’s data downloads once on first use.

What is a searchable PDF?

A PDF that looks exactly the same but whose text can be selected and searched. It lets you use Ctrl+F and copy text in scanned documents.

Is my document uploaded to a server?

No. Reading and conversion happen in your browser. The only download is the OCR engine and language data, once; your document never leaves your device, so it is safe for bank statements, contracts and ID scans.
