Technology glossary

Power Sapphire

Garmin's name for a sapphire lens that carries solar-charging cells.

Garmin presents Power Sapphire on Enduro 4 as a scratch-resistant lens, mentioned together with the watch's solar charging. Solar charging helps feed the battery while the watch is in use.

According to the manual, the watch does not charge from the sun while connected to an external power source or when the battery is full; charging may be limited or stopped in extreme temperatures. Garmin's solar battery figures rely on assumptions such as 3 hours per day outdoors at 50,000 lux in smartwatch mode.
