Intel Core i7-14700HX

Intel’s 20-core 14th-gen HX laptop processor launched in early 2024.

The i7-14700HX has 8 performance and 12 efficient cores with 28 threads in total. P-cores run at 2.1 GHz base and up to 5.5 GHz turbo, E-cores at 1.5 GHz base and up to 3.9 GHz. It has 33 MB of Intel Smart Cache and is built on Intel 7.

Intel lists 55 W base power, 157 W maximum turbo power and 45 W minimum assured power. Real performance depends on the power limits and cooling chosen by the laptop maker, so the same CPU can perform differently in different laptops.

It supports DDR5-5600 or DDR4-3200 memory (up to 192 GB) and 20 PCIe 5.0/4.0 lanes in total. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics (32 EU) handles basic display work when the discrete GPU is idle.

MSI Sword 16 HX B14VGKG-063ID

The Sword 16 HX B14VGKG is MSI’s 16-inch gaming laptop with a 14th-gen Intel HX processor and a discrete RTX 4070 Laptop GPU. In this SKU the GPU runs at up to 115 W with Dynamic Boost and has 8 GB of GDDR6; it offers a QHD+ 240 Hz IPS-level display, up to 96 GB of DDR5 in two SO-DIMM slots and two M.2 slots, one of them PCIe Gen5 compatible. In independent testing the CPU held steady at around 96 W in the top performance mode; the plastic chassis collecting grime, no charging over USB-C and weak touchpad palm rejection were criticised. Unlike this SKU, the tested unit had an FHD+ 144 Hz display.
