Technology glossary

Apple A19

Apple's chip made with 3 nm technology and used in the iPhone 17 family.

Apple describes the A19 as its latest-generation chip built with advanced 3-nanometre technology. The version in the iPhone 17e has a 6-core CPU, a 4-core GPU with Neural Accelerators and a 16-core Neural Engine; Apple says the CPU is up to 2x faster than the iPhone 11's.

The GPU supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing. The Neural Accelerators in each GPU core work with the Neural Engine to run Apple Intelligence and other AI models faster than the previous generation.

The GPU core count can differ by model, so check a device's own specs for its A19 configuration. Performance claims are Apple's own.

Apple iPhone 17e

The iPhone 17e is Apple's 2026 entry phone: A19 chip, 6.1-inch 60 Hz OLED display, a single 48 MP rear camera, the C1X modem and, new this time, 15 W MagSafe charging. Tests show longer battery life than the iPhone 16e; the 60 Hz display, single camera and USB 2 speed are its main limits.

Apple iPhone 17

The iPhone 17 is Apple’s base iPhone for the 2025 generation: a 6.3-inch 120 Hz ProMotion OLED display, the A19 chip, two 48 MP rear cameras and an 18 MP Center Stage front camera. The display has Always-On and a 3,000-nit outdoor peak; wireless connectivity is handled by Apple’s N1 chip (Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6). The USB-C port stays at USB 2 speed for data transfer. In the first months some owners complained about Wi-Fi dropping when unlocking the phone, and one thread after iOS 26.3 about overheating.
