TCL C8L 65-inch

C8L divides the small LEDs behind its LCD panel into zones to control bright and dark areas separately. The 65-inch version accepts 4K at 144 Hz for PC gaming; its 288 Hz accelerator does not mean 4K at 288 Hz.

TCL says its Super Quantum Dot layer and local backlight control aim to preserve colour in bright scenes and reduce halos against dark backgrounds. TCL

Strengths and limitations

  • What Hi-Fi? praises vivid colour and strong contrast, but finds the sound occasionally recessed.

    What Hi-Fi?: TCL C8L (65C8L)
  • In ID.nl measurements brightness reached 3764 nits on a 10 percent window, 5500 nits on a 5 percent window and 700 nits on full white; native VA contrast was 4894:1, rising to 16,175:1 with 2040-zone local dimming. Coverage was given as 96 percent P3 and 88 percent Rec.2020.

Single test unit, Dutch market 65C8L; not assumed identical to the UK-coded version on this page, and regional differences were not measured.

    ID.nl: TCL 65C8L review
  • ID.nl measured input lag at 12.4 ms at 4K60 and 7.8 ms at 2K120. Weak points listed are the narrow viewing angle and a deinterlacing error with jagged edges on 60i content; strengths are four HDMI 2.1 ports and good Filmmaker calibration.

Single review with no firmware version stated; the viewing angle comment is an observation, not a measurement.
