ULT WEAR is Sony’s bass-focused noise-cancelling over-ear headphone. It offers a 40 mm driver, a one-button ULT bass mode, ANC with the Integrated Processor V1, LDAC, connection to two devices at once and up to 30 hours of battery with ANC on. Owners like the bass, noise cancelling and battery life; some criticise call quality and mids being swamped at the highest bass setting. Sony acknowledges that a crack can form at the headband joint on specific serial numbers and offers free repair until 31 January 2027.

On Best Buy, 982 of 1,252 reviews are five-star and 27 one-star. Most of the 20 reviews on the first page are verified and incentivised; owners praise the strong bass, noise cancelling, comfort and long battery life. GioRodriguez26 compares them with the WH-1000XM4, finding stronger bass, slightly better ANC and nicer materials on the XM4. Criticism comes from different people: MeganK heard a crying baby on a plane and saw the joint between cup and headband break after 1.5 years (Sony’s reply points to the service program), Aramis762 thinks ANC could be better, Sarah and Remo find call quality weak, and KatieS says the sound became scratchy and muffled after about two years. Gadgetmang says multipoint works but switching to a turntable has to be done manually.
Best Buy: Sony ULT WEAR black (WHULT900N/B) customer reviewsOn Best Buy’s fourth review page three separate owners report structural breakage: DANIELAC (1.5 years) says the hinge broke and the repair was tedious and fixed only one hinge, LindsayJ (about a year, flights only) says the left earpiece came off in hand, and TruongM (about two years) says they broke despite careful use. These symptoms look consistent with the crack in Sony’s service program, but whether each unit’s serial falls in the program is unknown. On the same page hahanson (Tech Insider) says bass at the highest ULT setting swamps the mids and the faux leather gets warm, BenisJ finds them sweaty during activity and mostly plastic, and Desum says engine noise is cut but voices still come through.
