From the manufacturer

Canon presents the model as a light, travel-ready full-frame camera with in-body image stabilization; 40 fps electronic shutter and pre-continuous shooting are among the features it highlights. Canon EOS R8 Mark II Advanced User Guide (CT2-D442-B)

Strengths and limitations

  • Andy Westlake of Amateur Photographer calls in-body stabilization the model's most important addition. He relays the 7.5-stop figure (7.0 at the edges) Canon promises; that is Canon's rating, and the piece gives no measurement of its own. The same piece notes the body is thicker and heavier than its predecessor because of the stabilization.

September 2026 first-look review; sample with the 24-105 mm kit zoom, no detailed lab measurements, software version not stated.

  • Hillary K. Grigonis of Digital Camera World got a sharp frame at 1/60 s at 400 mm with an f/8 100-400 mm lens and found stabilization impressive in hands-on use. Autofocus caught most frames of birds in flight but dropped some, and animal eye AF struggled to find a bird's eye among branches and locked onto the branches.

September 2026 hands-on use; portraits and wildlife, 100-400 mm f/5.6-8 IS USM, no detailed measurements.

Digital Camera World: Canon EOS R8 Mark II hands-on review
  • In the same hands-on use, high-speed bursts did not leave a long wait for the buffer to clear. The reviewer shot more than 350 frames with plenty of battery left, but still recommends a spare battery for long shoots and travel.

Single reviewer, single sample; general usage impression compared with the 220-shot CIPA rating, not a measurement.

Digital Camera World: Canon EOS R8 Mark II hands-on review
  • DPReview says it is easy to overshoot from the stills position into video on the three-position power, stills and video switch. Amateur Photographer finds the same switch's clicks distinct and counts it as a usability improvement; the two reviews report different impressions here.

Two different reviews and reviewers; not long-term use. The DPReview part is a secondhand summary.
