Tools / JPG and PNG to WEBP
Make your site’s images WEBP or AVIF so pages load faster.
WEBP stores the same image in a file roughly 25–35% smaller than JPG, and much smaller than PNG. AVIF goes a step further. Converting your site’s images to these formats makes pages load faster, and Google likes fast pages.
If you are preparing a blog post or product photo, set a maximum width too (for example 1600 px). There is no need to show a 4000 px phone photo at full size on a website.
AVIF usually gives smaller files but encodes more slowly. WEBP opens in every current browser and is fast. If unsure, choose WEBP.
Both WEBP and AVIF support transparency, so transparent areas are kept.
For the web, 75–85% for WEBP and 60–70% for AVIF is usually enough.
