NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop GPU

NVIDIA’s top Ada Lovelace RTX 40 Series laptop graphics chip with 16 GB of GDDR6 memory.

According to NVIDIA’s laptop comparison table, the RTX 4090 Laptop GPU has 9,728 CUDA cores, 16 GB of GDDR6 memory and a boost clock range of 1455–2040 MHz. It is rated at 686 AI TOPS for AI compute.

The laptop maker chooses a GPU subsystem power between 80 W and 150 W; some models go beyond that with Dynamic Boost, borrowing budget from the CPU. Two laptops with the same GPU can therefore differ in gaming performance depending on power limit and cooling.

The desktop GeForce RTX 4090 is a separate product with 24 GB of memory and a much higher power limit. The laptop version shares the name but does not match the desktop card’s performance.

ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 18 (2024) G834JYR

The ROG Strix SCAR 18 (2024) is ASUS’s top 18-inch gaming laptop. It pairs the 24-core Core i9-14900HX with an RTX 4090 Laptop GPU drawing up to 175 W, and has a 240 Hz Mini LED display, two SO-DIMM and two M.2 slots, Thunderbolt 4 and a 90 Wh battery. Testing singled out the display’s brightness and contrast and the battery life; the mostly plastic chassis and fan noise under load were the weak points.
