AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX3D

AMD’s 16-core Zen 5 high-end laptop processor with 3D V-Cache.

The Ryzen 9 9955HX3D has 16 cores and 32 threads, a 2.5 GHz base and up to 5.4 GHz boost clock. It has 16 MB of L2 and 128 MB of L3 cache, which AMD says comes from second-generation 3D V-Cache technology.

The stacked L3 cache keeps data that games use often close to the cores and helps frame rates, especially in large open-world games. Default TDP is 55 W, configurable by the maker from 55 to 75 W.

The CPU cores are made on TSMC 4 nm and the I/O die on 6 nm. It supports dual-channel DDR5-5600 SO-DIMM memory up to 96 GB and 28 lanes of PCIe 5.0. The integrated Radeon 610M is for basic display duties; for gaming it is paired with a discrete graphics card.

MSI Raider A18 HX A9WIG-082US

The Raider A18 HX is MSI’s AMD-based 18-inch flagship gaming laptop. This SKU pairs the 3D V-Cache Ryzen 9 9955HX3D with an RTX 5080 Laptop GPU running at up to 175 W, a 3840 × 2400 120 Hz Mini LED screen, two USB4 ports, 2.5 Gbit Ethernet and a UHS-III card reader. In testing the cooling held up without throttling but the fans are loud; battery life is short and the 3.6 kg weight limits portability. Owners praise its desktop-replacement performance and criticise battery life and weight.
